OCLA calls on U of O to end its financing of a private defamation lawsuit

The Ontario Civil Liberties Association (OCLA) has posted a position statement on its website, entitled:

Public Money is Not for Silencing Critics
University of Ottawa must end its financing of a private defamation lawsuit  (LINK)

As part of its campaign, OCLA has written to Allan Rock (link), and to Nathalie Des Rosiers (link).

  1. Rancourt was/is affiliated with the OCLA and pro-actively organized/participated in its activities.

Moreover, the defamation lawsuit was with respect to official work done for the University. A private defamation lawsuit would be where the matter before the courts has nothing to do with University affairs/business and not on University property. The courts have ruled that the University has a legitimate stake and interest in the lawsuit.
